International Religious Freedom Report 2007
Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor

Uzbek society generally tolerates Christian churches as long as they do not attempt to win converts among ethnic Uzbeks; the law prohibits or severely restricts activities such as proselytizing, importing and disseminating religious literature, and offering private religious instruction. It is unfortunate that Uzbekistan is ruled by a dictator and it is even worse that there is no opposition in the country which is capable of, if not withstanding dictatorship, at least becoming an alternative to it and showing people that they have a choice even in the darkness of tyranny.
