Wouldn’t it make sense, in light of today’s dangers, from prescribed (and un – prescribed) pain killers, and anti – anxiety medications, if we focused, more on natural alternatives, which helped symptoms, and needs, instead of depending on taking certain drugs, with potentially dangerous, side effects? Every day, we hear, and read news items and reports, warning us about the opioid epidemic, and some undesirable ramifications, from taking specific medications. In my four decades of conducting personal development/ self – help seminars, and involvement in the natural/ alternative medicine/ health industry, I have observed and noticed, many people refuse to consider alternatives, even when they may help, and become dependent upon taking a wide variety of drugs. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, discuss, and review, some possible alternative approaches, which may be helpful to some, especially, in minor to medium instances.
1. Alternative Therapies: Many have benefited from acupuncture (including me), for a variety of ailments, including inflammations, some aches and pains, etc. Others are enthusiastic about professional massage therapies and treatments. There are many different treatments, to be considered, including physical therapy, exercise, weight loss, and a multitude of alternative, wellness approaches. Most of us, would benefit from reading, as much as possible, about the options, alternatives, and opportunities, and discussing them, with a trusted, health professional.
2. Homeopathy: In most nations, practitioners, use homeopathy, before allopathy, because of the many benefits. Homeopathic medicine, as well as Oriental Medicine, and many other treatments, have successfully, been used, throughout the world, for generations. The advantage of homeopathy, is, there are no known instances of side effects, and, therefore, individuals do not need, to worry about ramifications, etc. In general, these treatments, will, either work, or do no harm! The overall concept of homeopathy, is, to attempt to enhance our immune systems, etc.
3. Supplements: There are a variety of different supplements. The challenge is, knowing the true benefits, because there has been so little research and study, largely because of economic pressures, and profitability. While certain supplements have proponents, some of the most widely accepted include: a) Lutein: for eye issues; b) Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, etc: for inflammation and arthritic – related challenges; c) Vitamin C: overall health (and, it’s water soluble, so your body will rid itself of anything, it doesn’t use and need; d) Vitamin B-12: Energy; e) Calcium: Bone issues; etc. Beware, however, some supplements have certain side effects, and/ or, interactions, so don’t believe, they are absolutely safe, either!
4. Diet and exercise: Proper diet, and the right type of exercise, are essential components, for healthier living. Certain ailments, especially, heart – related, and type – 2 diabetes, are especially, related to body weight and body mass.
Smart, prepared planning, and prioritizing a wellness approach, instead of taking a short – cut, are often beneficial to healthier, happier living. The more one reads and understands, both the benefits of alternatives, as well as the risks of certain drugs, the better off, you will usually be! Always discuss risks versus rewards, and alternatives, with your trusted health professional.
