BAE Systems Australia has partnered with an Australian consortium of advanced fiber and composite technology manufacturers.
The Advanced Fibre Cluster’s (AFC) fiber and advanced composite innovations are expected to complement BAE’s work on the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordinance (GWEO) Enterprise.
BAE recently signed an agreement with MBDA to bolster Australia’s GWEO capabilities, including weapons development and capacity building.
Advanced Composites
Advanced composites are formed when fibers of two or more reinforced materials are fused with polymers such as epoxy.
These strong, lightweight, and durable materials are ideal for aircraft and other technologies.
“The AFCG was established with funding from Deakin University and a world-leading group of domestic manufacturers situated in Waurn Ponds, with a mission to enhance knowledge, innovation and collaboration within composites and carbon fiber materials,” Advanced Fibre Cluster CEO David Buchanan said.
“The mission for the AFCG is to continue to collaborate, innovate and lead the development of Advanced Fibres with the world’s top scientific and manufacturing minds.”
