4,200 NATO troops conduct military maneuvers on the border with Russia. They are located at the Camp Adazi training ground in Latvia. The exercise is called Silver Arrow 2022 and is led by a mechanized brigade of the Spanish army. 17 NATO member states are participating in the exercise.
Silver Arrow 2022 started two days ago on September 19th and will continue until the end of the month. Combat groups are participating in the exercise, part of NATO’s deterrence measures against Russia. They are run by the Canadian military. Various ground artillery and tank units are used. Sources report Leopard battle tanks, Pizarro armored vehicles, Nasams anti-aircraft batteries, or M109 artillery guns.
The study has two main objectives. The first is to preserve and increase the combat capability of the interoperability forces. The second is practicing defense against a Russian attack on Latvia.
Some of the participants in the exercise are the countries Albania, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Against the backdrop of ongoing NATO exercises near the border with Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization. It includes the mobilization of the reserve and civil service members of the Russian army. Citizens with special skills and military experience will also be mobilized.
