A rare double-header by the Navy and Air Force’s aerial demonstration teams will entertain crowds this weekend for the 2023 Point Mugu Air Show.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu.
The U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, will be joined by the U.S. Air Force Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, as co-headliners.
Navy officials say it’s the first time both teams have been co-headliners at the Ventura County event, which first took place in 1960 as “Space Fair” and has boasted various names through the years.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Navy at Point Mugu.
The opening ceremony with the national anthem is scheduled for 10 a.m. with the Navy’s Leap Frog Jump Team, and performances are set to start at noon.
Other aerial performances include the F/A-18 Super Hornet, the “Fat Albert” C-130J Super Hercules and the F-16C Fighting Falcon. Civilian performances also are planned.
A number of aircraft also will be on static display at the event.
Parking, admission, and blanket seating are free. Upgraded preferred seating options are available.
Large bags, backpacks bigger than 8 inches by 11 inches, ice chests and coolers will not be permitted.
Other prohibited items include drones, all weapons, all marijuana, any pets (excluding service animals), glass containers, bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller skates and roller blades.
Cellphones, folding chairs, cameras, strollers and wheelchairs are among allowed items.
Military and civilian personnel are required to have identification (state, federal or passport) while on base. Random identification checks will be conducted, officials said.
Naval officials said air show attendees from Santa Barbara County going southbound on Highway 101 should take the Rice Road exit and travel south to Pacific Coast Highway. The Point Mugu Naval Air Station is at 311 Main Road, Point Mugu.
